Projects For The Reckoning International

Ukraine

Kyle and Ganna Schlegel live in Kiev, Ukraine with their daughter Bianca. Their vision and goal is to transform the minds of post-communist Ukraine by training business and government leaders in character and godly ethics while helping to establish small business enterprise.

With funds released from The Reckoning, they were able to start their first business - a small residential cleaning company, and hire two employees. While they are developing their business, they are also training their employees in character and good work ethics.

TRI also released a grant to the Schlegels to start a Business Center. With the grant, they purchased a heavy-duty Xerox printer and cutting equipment which enables them to do business cards, brochures, flyers, banners, etc. The quality of their work has been fabulous and their satisfied customers have been a great source of advertising for them. Kyle and Ganna's long term goal for the Center is to create a “Kinko’s” style facility, complete with internet café, printing, coffee bar, secretarial service, t-shirt print and photo shop.

Please pray for the Schlegels as they try to change the corrupt business system of Ukraine into a God-fearing, ethic-driven atmosphere where small businesses can flourish.

Kenya

Dorcas Jumba invested her loan fund in the small business venture of mixed farming. She planted bananas and potatoes and purchased a cow.

“People conveyed all kinds of negative messages about dairy farming, but that did not altar my determination. Time has not only proved them wrong it has taught them Dairy Farming can be a profitable venture,” she says.”

Dorcas’s success is an example of how small scale mixed farmers can be profitable. The cow she purchased has since delivered three calves, and she is able to make a good living by selling the milk, potatoes, bananas and other farm products.

Simon Omwanda tells the story of his business, even as a wide smile spreads across his face:

“My business was a struggle before the introduction of The Reckoning. Initially I offered shoe shining services alone, but I used the loan from The Reckoning to purchase better tools that enabled me to provide an additional service of shoe repair. This has boosted profits. This year I am making comfortable, cost effective shoes in addition to the services of shoe shining and repair. Thank you, The Reckoning. I used to depend on other people but now they depend on me. It is a blessing to earn my way through life.”

Winnie Najala…

“I was a seamstress who did repairs and alterations of clothing. I had a desire to make school uniforms but to be profitable, this required mass production. So with a loan from The Reckoning, I was able to purchase the quantity and quality of materials required to do this. This has tripled my production and profit.

This was not without challenges, but the leadership and training we received from The Reckoning has been so helpful in ensuring that we overcome the challenges. This enabled me to be faithful with what I borrowed.”

Colombia

Adults from Berlin, Ohio turned $1800 of seed money into $15,500 of capitol for a business project in Barrancabermeja, Colombia. The money was used to start an automobile service station there. The young people who work for the business would otherwise be working with guerrillas or drug traffickers.

After the project was over, the balance of the funds were used by La Red Business Network International to help transform the prison system of Colombia.

Nepal

We helped raise more than $40,000 to buy the freedom of indentured Tharu slaves in Nepal, giving them each a tract of land for farming and self support. We were also able to help raise $20,000 to purchase water buffaloes for these families to use in farming and milking.

The Future of The Reckoning International...

We want to see The Reckoning grow into a world-class development organization with a powerful impact on the nations.  To help us accomplish this goal, you will see new things like a state-of-the-art website with online donation capability, more frequent newsletters to keep our partners informed and excited about the projects TRI is involved in, and training for our volunteers.  We believe that building a strong foundation is essential for what God wants to do.  Building capacity and efficient inrastructure are among our goals for 2009.
